McCalls 6803 – Grandpa Cardigan (Again)

I actually made this over the winter but never got around to blogging about it. This is McCalls 6803 – The Grandpa Cardigan and I’ve already made it a few years ago. I think that’s why I wasn’t rushing to post it, I figured it wasn’t that fantastic ans I’ve already posted about a different one – but these pictures have Guinness in them, so they needed to be posted. I’m still super heartbroken over him passing away and this is part of my therapy.

That picture above is one of my favorites because it’s the whole family (minus the cat – who refuses to be in pictures) and we all look happy. Nico looks like an innocent angel and Guinness has the blue steel look from Zoolander, Andres looks handsome as always and I’m happy 😀 I love it!

Okay, onto the pattern review. When I first made this pattern it was 3 years ago and my measurements were 33-28-38 so I made a small, this time my measurements were 36-31-40 (thanks baby weight!!) and I went with a medium. In the end I should have made a smaller size – NOT because of measurements but because of the fabric I went with, baby hacci. This stuff has weird stretch and drape. I had never worked with it before and probably won’t rush back to it, unless I’m making a kimono or something similar. I got it at JoAnn Fabrics on deep discount.

I ended up having to take the sides in 3 inches total. I also added 1 inch to the length of the body and 1 inch to the sleeves – which I didn’t even need to do this time.

The pattern is pretty straightforward and simple. My neckband is a little wonky on the back, but you can’t tell too much since my hair is covering it. I had issues with it the first time around too, but back then it was my fault and again it’s my fault because of the fabric choice.

My favorite part is the pockets – of course! I often wonder why half of women’s clothing either doesn’t have pockets or has faux pockets? It’s not nice and drives me crazy.

I’m not sure I will ever make this pattern again. I just don’t think it’s the most flattering fit for my body type. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad pattern at all… just my preference.

Anyways, here are some outtakes for you!

full on making out with the dog – i miss this

i have no idea what we were doing but he wanted the step stool in it
when you’ve taken 1000 pictures and hope 1 came out good
i could kiss this boy forever

i don’t remember what was going on but the genuine happiness he brought me made my life full
