Made For Mermaids – Mama Bridgette & Mama Victoria

I made lingerie! I never thought I’d venture into this realm of sewing, but I did and it wasn’t even that difficult! I think that’s mostly because of the pattern though.

Meet the Mama Bridgette* and the Mama Victoria* from Made For Mermaids*. You can also buy it as a bundle here*.

I forgot to take a picture of the top by itself, right side out. The above is a picture of it inside out. Oh well, you get the idea! For the top my high bust was 34 and bust was 36. This made for a 2″ difference, which put me at a B cup. I went with a C cup for a bit more coverage. This pattern is supposed to show cleavage but I was worried my boobs would fall out. The C cup is perfect. I also choose to make the racerback option. Putting the bra on I will say it makes my chest look a little bit smaller than I am. I think that’s just this style of bra though or because I breastfed.

For the inside of the cups I used a nude swim lining because I don’t like seams rubbing on my nipples. This swim fabric is crazy smooth and so dreamy, more about that in a minute. The pattern is honestly so very easy. I used my serger and a zig-zag stitch on my machine for all of it. The pattern suggests using a new needle, which I did, and start your sewing on a scrap fabric so your lace glides through easier. The pattern itself has lots of great tips and YouTube tutorials for help. It also has step-by-step pictures to guide you through everything. I used a galloon lace so the edges didn’t need to be finished. The lace I used is 6”. I did have to add picot elastic to the top of the back but it was incredibly easy.

The underwear pattern was basically the easiest thing you could ever sew. It can be printed, taped together, traced, cut and sewn it up all in an hour. It took me longer obviously, because I have a 3 year old and I get distracted by everything else in the world. My waist is 31” and hips 40” which put me in a size “blue”, which was a perfect fit.

Yes I put the tag on the outside of the panties because I hate tags itching my buttcrack! Anyways, onto the fabric and trims. I was a bit overwhelmed by all of this. The Made For Mermaids girls recommended a place but when I looked they didn’t have everything I needed, so that was super annoying. Then I remembered the place I had just ordered other bra materials (because, 2018 WILL be the year I make bras!) and checked out her offerings. She had every single thing I needed – SCORE! Also, her shipping is crazy fast – another score! And you can ask her questions and she is super nice – triple score! Check out Porcelynne.com* and get started on your fancy lingerie.

Overall, very easy and I feel so damned accomplished! I seriously can’t believe I made lingerie!!! I’m so proud. Even if you don’t normally wear garments like these, the bralette will look cute under tanks in the summer, so maybe consider it. The outfit is actually comfortable and pretty cute on! Don’t be intimidated like I was – go sew all the things (including lingerie)!!!
