Minerva Crafts Blogger Network – The Bapron

THE BAPRON

For this month’s Minerva Crafts Blogger Network I choose something quick and simple: The Bapron. This pattern comes from Craftiness Is Not Optional, costs $6 for the PDF pattern and comes in sizes 6 months to 3T.

I’ve actually made a few of these but haven’t gotten a chance to take pictures of any because they are always dirty from so much use! These are hands down the BEST bibs ever!

I wanted to do this as a Minerva project to showcase something that is so simple, cheap to make and will get used over and over again. Even if you don’t have a baby this makes a perfect baby shower gift.

The bapron is simple: a bib + an apron. Who knew something so straightforward could be so amazing? I love these because a regular bib doesn’t cover enough of baby’s clothes, baby rips them off and/or uses it as a cape.

This will stay on your baby and will cover their chest/tummy so no more stains on your cute onesies. They can’t tear this off like a regular bib because it’s more like a shirt. It ties in the back so baby can’t just pull super hard and yank it off. I know I’m not the only one with a baby who rips his bib off!

I did make a few changes to mine. I decided that toweling fabric was the way to go, it will absorb much more than flannel. I used regular quilting cotton the front because they have the cutest prints. You’ll only need a fat quarter of each piece of fabric.

These baprons are reversible, so if it’s going to be a super messy meal, I’ll just put the towel side out.

And there you have it! One of my favorite quick sew patterns. I can start and finish this project all within an hour – granted the baby cooperates and/or is napping 😉 You could also add a small panel at the bottom to catch crumbs or make this in a waterproof fabric.

Hope you enjoyed all the Nico pictures! We had fun with our little photo shoot 🙂

  1. Its hard to look past your little cutie, Nico. There are a lot of bib patterns out there that are crazy small around the neck. I made and chucked out several that were stranglers. This one looks like there’s plenty of room and the full coverage is super.

  2. OMG…..he is so cute..I love how he is sitting with his back to the cramera …like he is sitting in the corner for being bad…( those days are coming..lol ) but back to the bibs…I love them…great idea..

  3. The photo with a smile and the peas on his face is priceless. It almost makes you not want to clean his face. This bib design is so great! Love it!
